Submission guidelines


We are pleased to have submissions for MyDearFriend. Articles from readers are very important, after all, you are familiar with the content and know what we like.

If you wish to submit to MyDearFriend, please read an issue to get a sense of what we are looking for.

Subjects

The main subjects required are:

Our readers are mainly women who want to reach out to other women. They are intelligent and caring. They are interested in what is going on around them, and in other parts of the world. They enjoy reading about others’ experiences and ideas. They need help and support with the issues in life we all face.

House style

The house style is one of clear, fresh presentation at an intelligent level. This allows for a wide variety of personal writing styles which provides richness in the content as a whole.

Use of explicit sex and violence is not acceptable. We maintain a PG-13 rating.

Editing

We do our best to preserve the original voice of the article; however we reserve the right to make changes, if needed to correct grammar, spelling, etc. The author will be contacted if substantial amendment is required.

As a global publication we accept submissions in British or US English, or other major branches of the language.

Use of personal details, names, etc.

Generally, we do not include personal names or identifying details of real individuals in an article.

Celebrities or individuals who have given their consent may be named.

We consider it advisable for the author of an article to use a pen name or first name and initial as a by-line, but you may use your full name if you wish.

We accept accompanying photos and illustrations as long as they are relevant to the topic of the article. They should not identify individuals, particularly children. Scenes, crowd photos, food, etc., are fine. You must own the copyright of the photo or illustration or provide confirmation that you have written authority to submit it to us.

Types of Article

The magazine needs a variety of article length. Feature articles would be up to 2,500 words. Short stories should be about 800 to 4000 words. Most mainstream articles such as travel, lifestyle, fashion, etc would be about 1,000 to 1,500 words but could be longer if particularly interesting.

Copyright

We ask for First Internet Rights. Your article will be published exclusively with us for the first month, and thereafter non-exclusively with us for three months. We will maintain the article in our archive indefinitely unless notified in writing to withdraw it.

All articles must be your original work or you must own the copyright. The article must not have been published on the internet before except within a writers group for comment. We are prepared to consider articles which have been published in printed form provided they are not found elsewhere on the Internet.

Copyright in the article remains with you.

Payment

Contributors will receive payment from the profit pool in the first quarter that the magazine generates enough profit to ensure the payrates specified below can be met. Payment will be made through PayPal.

How to submit

Please submit by email to submission@mydearfriend.net. Your article should be either clearly identified in the body of the e-mail or in an attachment as a Word .doc or a Rich Text Format text file. Photos/illustrations can also be attached.
